June 1: Grand Old Day on St. Paul's Grand Avenue

Wednesday May 21, 2008
This year sees the 35th Grand Old Day, and to celebrate the festival's 1970s roots, the theme of this year's celebration is "Flashback to the '70s". The Grand Avenue Business Association, the organizers, are promising a "groovy parade" and hope that festival-goers will don their bell-bottoms and platforms in the spirit of the day. Retro gear is optional, of course.

Grand Avenue will be divided into the Sporting District, Family Fun District, Art District, International District, and Entertainment District.

A parade along Grand Avenue, live music, sporting events, dog competitions, art cars on display, children's activities, street performances, a strongest man and woman competition, and lots more events and activities promise a fun-filled day. All Grand Avenue's stores and restaurants will be open for food, drink and shopping.

Parking near Grand Avenue is awkward at best, so street parking near the festivities will be very hard to find on Sunday. So either cross your fingers you'll find a parking spot, or ride the bus in.
