Guide Review - Patrick McGovern's Pub

A lot of Irish pubs such as this one boast of their authenticity. Real Irish pubs have ramshackle collections of tables and chairs, one small TV in the corner, and no booths and no ice-hockey games on multiple wide screen TVs.

Minnesota is not Ireland, so we'll forgive them for the booths and the big TVs. They do one of the finest plates of Irish stew in the Twin Cities, so many choices of beers, stouts and whiskeys you'll have to visit several times to drink through them all.

They are closed on Sundays for special events, and there's a staircase in the middle of the bar leading down to the cellar with no barrier which I'm sure has gobbled up many drunken stumblers. It's a hazard of drinking too much of the black stuff. I still recommend this convivial place despite the staircase, but look where you are going on the way to the bathroom.
