Guide Review - The Muddy Pig Pub in St. Paul
The Muddy Pig is a great place for a leisurely drink in St. Paul. The Muddy Pig is on Dale Street, just a few blocks north of Grand Avenue. The Muddy Pig has wood benches in the window, a nice square bar, and a high ceiling, so basically you are drinking in a box. Nice for those who like symmetry, but can be perilous for the very drunk as the direction of which way is up may become confused.
There's a full menu, which is pretty good bar food. Some comes from real pigs. The El Cubano sandwich of pork, ham, and other good stuff - cheese, pickles, mustard and orange vinaigrette on a crusty baguette - is the perfect accompaniment to a pint of beer.
Where the Muddy Pig excels, as any pub should, is with their drinks.
The beer list is impressive. Domestic beers, Canadian, British, Belgium and other European beers are on the menu, and many ex-pats drink here.
The bar staff are friendly, relaxed, sometimes get distracted, so if you want your beer now perhaps you should look elsewhere, but if you don't mind taking a little time to appreciate the collection of pig memorabilia behind the bar, you'll be fine.
The Muddy Pig holds regular events, like brandy tasting, whiskey appreciation, and beer festivals. The staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what they are serving. Slow down, appreciate your drink, and you'll have a great time at the Muddy Pig.
